"Our family, like many others in Poland, is made up of a blend of eastern-borderland and Galician-highlander temperament. It brings together and contains every element of this mix, like an Easter fruitcake. We celebrate with kutia, red borscht, żurek, blini and oscypek. We are deeply rooted in history and tradition, but also open, because the world has so much to offer. We create our own sanctuaries, tending gardens so that we can create and rest freely, and observe nature. Each of us has found the right medium of expression, one that reflects our individual artistic vision, and that is how we create here. Easter 2021." This is how artist Urszula Święcicka writes about the exhibition.
April 11 is an extraordinary date, not only because it marks the opening at K&K Art Gallery of another exhibition in the Multigenerational Families of Artists series—GENERATIONS, featuring the Słonina/Święcicki family; it is also special because it is Professor Stanisław Słonina’s 85th birthday. Stanisław is the oldest of the artists taking part in the exhibition. He works not only in sculpture, but also in drawing, medal-making and essay writing. Alongside the “head of the artistic dynasty,” the exhibition also features the artist’s daughter, Urszula Święcicka (a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Vice-President of the Warsaw District of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, and Chair of its Sculpture Section—but above all, a sculptor; visitors will be able to admire her installations), together with her husband, the versatile graphic artist Grzegorz Święcicki, who will present his posters. We are delighted to welcome such a wonderfully diverse and talented group, and warmly invite you to the virtual opening of the exhibition on 11 April at 5:00 p.m. (We will accept no excuses—the virtual presence of all is MANDATORY!)
