PLUS ULTRA. Project co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund—a state-purpose fund. The project’s name, PLUS ULTRA, refers to the Latin phrase meaning “ever further.” It is a paraphrase of non plus ultra (“nothing beyond”), following the words inscribed by the mythological Hercules on two pillars he erected at the supposed end of the world. Through exhibitions showcasing the most important trends in contemporary Polish sculpture, we want to encourage visitors to continue their exploration—to develop themselves not only in their knowledge of art, but also in their spirituality—and to embrace the idea of ever further. We invite you to the exhibition “Students of Sculpture,” focusing on sculptors of the younger generation. It will feature works by 10 contemporary Polish sculptors from the younger generation, including Urszula Święcicka, Karol Szostak, Zofia Kubicka, Katarzyna Fober, Maria Cukier, Olga Prokop-Miśniakiewicz, Roland Kościółek, Jan Kubicki, Waldemar Mazurek, and Wiesław Kwiek. As with the first exhibition in the series, the aim here will be to present the styles in which artists from the Polish sculpture scene work, as well as the main currents in their practice. The exhibition expresses a desire both to recognize the creators of Polish culture and to stimulate the interest in art of visitors from diverse walks of life.
