Maria Janiga’s work exemplifies a mature artistic approach in which the diversity of techniques and media is not an end in itself but a means to the consistent development of a visual language. Although the artist moves freely between painting, drawing, printmaking, and ceramics, paper-mâché objects and compositions occupy a special place in her body of work, revealing the most synthetic and conceptual dimension of her art.
The relationship between the objects and the space is also significant. The paper compositions do not function as self-contained forms, but as elements that engage in a dialogue with their surroundings and the viewer. Their visual lightness contrasts with the weight of their meanings—associations with memory, transience, and the traces of human presence. Papier-mâché, a material prone to destruction, becomes a medium for reflection on the impermanence of forms and ideas, placing these works closer to philosophical expression than to purely formal one.
